How to store and reheat your cookies
So your Crushin' on Cookies order just showed up. Maybe you want to pace yourself, or maybe you're stashing some for later. Either way, here's how to keep them fresh.
Quick note on shipping: the cookies arrive at room temperature and that's totally fine. They're baked and packaged to handle the trip. Everything below is about what to do once they're at your door.
Storing at room temperature
Leave them in the packaging or move them to an airtight container. They'll stay good for about 5 days at room temp. If it's really hot where you live, the fridge is a better bet.
Refrigerating
Let the cookies cool completely if you've warmed them up. Put them in an airtight container with parchment paper between layers so they don't stick together. They'll keep for about a week in the fridge.
Freezing
This is the move if you want to save some for a few weeks out.
Let them cool completely first. Wrap each cookie individually in plastic wrap, then put them in a freezer bag. Squeeze out as much air as you can. They'll hold up for about 3 months in the freezer. After that they're still safe to eat, they just won't taste quite as good.
If you want to be extra about it, freeze them on a baking sheet for 15-30 minutes first so they firm up before you bag them. Keeps them from sticking together.
Reheating
From the fridge: 300 degrees in the oven for 5-7 minutes, or 10-20 seconds in the microwave. The oven gives you a crispier edge, the microwave keeps them soft and chewy.
From the freezer: best to thaw them in the fridge overnight first, then reheat like above. If you're impatient, 10-15 minutes at 300 degrees straight from the freezer works. You can microwave them frozen too (30-60 seconds on low power) but it can heat unevenly so keep checking.
A warm cookie is always better than a room temperature cookie. That's not even an opinion, it's just a fact.
